A lawsuit filed by a Chinese tech company in Australia is seeking damages over the company’s alleged discriminatory practices against Asian workers.
The suit was filed on behalf of UberX, an Asian taxi service.
Uber says it’s committed to fostering a culture of equality and diversity within its workforce, which is why it hired a human resources manager for its Australian operations.
Uber claims that the discrimination allegedly happened between 2009 and 2016, during which time it employed more than 70,000 people, according to the suit.
In its lawsuit, Uber claims it’s seeking $10.5 million for the discrimination.
The lawsuit was filed in the Northern Territory Federal Court on Monday.
Uber said it was unable to comment.
